A few weeks ago, I wrote about chemical peels as an effective way to control your acne. As a bonus, those chemical peels can help your skin look younger around a week after the treatment. Although there are many benefits to chemical peels, there isn’t one answer to every situation and every skin problem. Mancy Kirkland, my esthetician, at https://www.healthwellnessmd.com/ discussed another alternative to chemical peels with me, light therapy, and more specifically Lightwave LED Therapy.

What is Lightwave LED Therapy and what does it do for acne and other skin conditions? There are different types of light that can help with acne, scarring and skin discoloration. For example, blue light therapy is typically used to kill bacteria on the skin. Red light therapy, while often used for anti-aging (I have an at-home device that I use for this purpose), may be used for inflammation and to target oil glands in the skin, to treat old acne scars and lesions, and even that pesky condition called Rosacea. Many people email me about Rosacea, and I direct them to our Daytime Moisturizer, which is a phenomenal product to control redness, irritation, and inflammation because of one of its primary ingredients Alguard™, a specific type of red marine algae.

If you are starting light therapy, your esthetician or dermatologist may have you return for a few treatments or stay on a committed regimen for optimum results. While research continues to determine which light is best for clearing up acne and how it is best utilized, Lightwave LED Therapy has been found to kill acne-causing bacteria and treat acne related skin conditions.

For younger acne sufferers (pubescent or adolescent) with pustules, chemical peels may be beneficial to kill the initial bacteria that is causing their acne, but they need to be on a regular Lightwave LED Therapy regimen. In addition, it is important that they stay on Retin A or a tretinoin product faithfully that will kill the bacteria.

On the other hand, if you have had a chemical peel and are enjoying the results, a Lightwave LED Therapy treatment once a week can be done to control acne, while at the same time giving you results that are beneficial for anti-aging. Lightwave LED Therapy is also time efficient if you are an on-the-go person like me. It is a simple 30-minute treatment of blue and red light that kills bacteria and rejuvenates the skin. Basically, you can do it on your lunch hour! Lightwave LED Therapy can also be used after a CO2 treatment to accelerate healing of the skin.

Lightwave LED Therapy, or light therapy in general, is beneficial for many skin conditions including acne, anti-aging, scarring and so much more. If you are in the Dallas area, I encourage you to visit my esthetician, Mancy Kirkland, at https://www.healthwellnessmd.com/ to book an appointment and see what a Lightwave LED Therapy treatment can do for your skin!
