When we are talking about these two terms, the biggest dissimilarity comes down to regulations. Here is a quick explanation to help you understand the differences, since this happens to be a frequently asked question.
Certified Organic, which the USDA regulates heavily, states that a product’s ingredients must contain absolutely no toxic pesticides, toxic synthetic herbicides, Chemical NPK fertilizers, no antibiotics, growth hormones, or genetically modified organisms. The labeling however, can vary depending on the makeup of the product and in which state it was manufactured and sold.
Here are a few of the different classifications; keep in mind only a percentage of a product has to contain organic matter to be labeled organic.
Natural or All-Natural essentially has no regulations when it comes to labeling. If a company is claiming these, then you need to look at the founders and the directors of the company, and decide if they are to be trusted. Integrity is key! If a founder is truly involved in the formulation of their products, it will be apparent. You want to be cautious about the products you use, because they can contain naturally derived ingredients that are processed and potentially harmful to your body.
When looking for natural products we always recommend looking at the ingredient list of what you are using. Some key ingredients to look for are Aloe Vera, Beeswax, Shea Butter, and botanical extracts such as baobab.
